Top tips for a garden workout this summer from personal training in Chiswick

The summer has officially arrived, just when we thought the sun might never show its face again! Niall O’Boyle is here with his local personal training in Chiswick and his top tips for working out at home in the garden this month.

Niall’s guide to a no equipment, private workout in your own garden includes:

  1. Planks – the ideal way to strengthen your core and abdominal muscles. Lie flat on the ground, face down, raising your upper body onto your elbows and lower body onto your toes making your body parallel to the ground. Hold the position for 30 seconds, rest and repeat!
  2. Squats – another excellent bodyweight exercise working on your legs and glutes. Let personal training in Chiswick talk you through how to protect your knees. Feet shoulder width apart, stick your derriere out as you squat down like you’re about to sit, use your hip and thigh muscles to push back up keeping your knees straight.
  3. Press-ups – start off with the plank position and instead of resting on your elbows, straighten your arms and press your palms into the ground to lift up your body, then slowly lower your upper body to the ground, repeat 6 times for 3 sets taking a break in between.
  4. Ski-sit – let personal training in Chiswick get those glutes warmed up. For this exercise, you’ll need a flat wall – place your back against it, slide your back down the wall and walk the feet out until your knees are 90 degrees, ‘sit’ and hold the position for 30 seconds, rest and repeat.
  5. Mountain climbers – fantastic for building cardio endurance, start in a plank position using your hands shoulder width apart. Pull one knee up to your chest and then alternate it as fast as you can while keeping your hips steady.
